Tentador que fosse para hibernar durante o inverno, Eu tenho sido realmente muito ocupado. Ocupado fazendo o que? você pode perguntar. Bem, um monte de coçar a cabeça, principalmente. Nada a ver com o inseto rastejador eu poderia acrescentar, but trying to decide what to do next about my dream to sail solo across the Atlantic.

Tem sido uma luta real se eu sou honesto. Foi wizzing ronda minha mente constantemente, dia e noite. Eu encontrei-me ser tão consumido por toda a coisa que eu não conseguia me concentrar em outra coisa. Algumas semanas atrás eu estava dirigindo para casa do trabalho quando se pensar muito sobre a minha campanha de vela. Embarrassingly, Sentei-me no meu carro no semáforo, com uma dúzia de carros atrás de mim soando suas buzinas, porque eu não havia percebido a luz verde. Minhas habilidades multitarefa parece um pouco falta. It’s just as well I settled on a plan otherwise it wouldn’t have been long before I left for work without trousers or something.

So in the end I put aside the months of cogitating, ruminação e deliberar e decidir sobre o caminho a seguir por aquilo que parecia certo – o instinto de confiança. Então o que disse, Estou anunciando o meu desejo de competir no ‘Artemis Transat‘ em 2012. Esta é uma regata transatlântica único entregue a partir de Plymouth na Inglaterra, E.U.A. para Boston. O plano é fazer um programa de formação e de igual número de corridas como eu posso encaixar em se preparar para o Artemis Transat. Isto irá satisfazer a minha natureza competitiva e meu sonho de uma vela solo através do Atlântico, ao mesmo tempo. Also I think my options of what to do next will have wider scope.

I still need a sponsor for all this to become a reality and for a while now I’ve been busy putting together and distributing my sponsorship proposal. I have nothing to report on this front just yet but as soon as I have a solid announcement to make, I shall be sure to let you know.

Tenho agora uma data para lançar o meu novo barco (barco velho, mas novo para mim). Estou realmente ansioso para descobrir o quão bem ela velas. Há ainda muito que fazer antes que ela está em navios de forma e tempo é um pouco apertado, but she’s coming together nicely.

Em 2009 Tenho também cruzeiros novos motivos para olhar para frente. Meu barco anterior, que dividi com um amigo, foi amarrada em Whitby. Este foi ótimo porque você pode navegar para fora do porto, em qualquer estado de maré. Mas, na minha opinião, a possibilidade de cruzeiro era limitada. Se você quiser navegar ao largo de Whitby suas opções são mais ou menos limita, which is fine if you have lots of time on your hands.

My new boat will be moored on the west coast of England.  The marina is a little bit more restricted than at Whitby.  You can only pass in and out at certain times based upon high water.  But in my view the scope for sailing is much better.  From my marina I can sail to Ireland, Gales, Ilhas da Escócia e da Ilha de Man. Tanta escolha!

Sabendo o meu humilde fundo, if three years ago you would have told me I would soon have my own boat and be sailing half way accross the Atlantic I would never have believed it.

This is the beginning of a journey for me. My aim is to make a single handed voyage in a sail boat across the Atlantic Ocean and not only that, but to race. This would push most able bodied people to their limits, muito menos alguém com uma deficiência física como a minha. Tenho-Spina bífida, um defeito da coluna vertebral, desde o nascimento. Contudo, I am really fortunate because I am able to sail a yacht and sail single handed.

Vela Atlântico para mim será um primeiro e pretendo fazer toda a experiência do início ao fim um momento muito especial da minha vida. É um desafio que eu nunca teria imaginado possível. Mas é isso que é a vida, viver a vida ao máximo, empurrando as fronteiras, achieving great things and inspiring others to make the most of their potential.

Eu não estou fora de mudar o mundo, I shall leave that to far more capable people than I.  But should I succeed I hope that in my small way that I might be able to inspire and motivate others to do something far beyond what they thought themselves capable of.  Everyone has a fire in their belly, um desejo de fazer algo fantástico com suas vidas, but it is up to us to do something about it.  Something which I aim to do from this moment on.  Obstacles are to be expected, but obstacles are there to be overcome.

Posso honestamente dizer que já estou com o tempo da minha vida. Sou um cara de classe trabalhadora com deficiência Bradford. Yet I sail the open sea, with its ever changing moods.  It really is the most beautiful thing.
